American Couples Series

Cory and Meagan York Take the win in Kentucky

ABA Couples Series on Kentucky Lake got off to a very cold start in 2018!  Sunday, April 8 the water temperature was in the mid-40s and the air temperature was in the upper 20s at launch and barely reached the 40s by weigh-in.  Fourteen teams braved these extreme fishing conditions with mixed results.  Not many fish were caught, but some high quality fish made it to the scales.  Eight of the fourteen teams brought in only 14 total fish for a total weight of 53.79 pounds, all being released alive and well to do battle another day.

Cory and Meagan York mastered the conditions, the lake and the field with a runaway victory.  They had the only 5 bass limit weighing 19.76 pounds.  Their catch was anchored by a 6.42 largemouth.  The Yorks only had 7 bites all day fishing swimbaits and rattletraps primarily on main lake points.  Cory and Meagan took home a well-earned $550 for their day’s work.

Bill Bruce and Nancy Orren took second place, weighing 3 fish at 13.09 pounds. Their sack was anchored by the big fish of the day, a 6.71 largemouth caught by Bill.  Bill and Nancy fished main lake rocky banks in 4 foot and less of water.  Their top producing baits were crawdad colored square billed crankbaits and Carolina rigged watermelonsupercraws.  Bill and Nancy enjoyed a $395 payday; $325 for their second place finish and $70 for men’s big bass.

Treye and Carol Ward took third place with one fish.  It was a nice one, a 5.08 largemouth.  Treye and Carol ran to Lake Barkley to catch that lunker on ashakeyhead jig in less than a foot of water.  The Wards received a payday for $175 for their efforts.

One more payout was made for the day.  That was ladies big bass taken by Cindy Linton.  She caught a nice 3.82 fishing a worm around docks.  She was awarded $70 for her work.

As we always do, a couple of prizes were awarded by drawing two teams that did not finish in the money.  The Barclays and Lintons each received 100 count packs of soft plastic baits in the drawing.  We will be giving away much more in future tournaments!  We will also grill out some burger/dogs as weather and time permits.
We want to welcome some new teams this year; Bill Bruce & Nancy Orren, Danny & Debbie Baggett, Buddy Hopkins & Natasha Stytz, and Dwight & Regina Clunie.  Also, Cory York has a new partner this year, his wife Meagan, while Cory’s mom is now fishing with her husband Kent York.  We appreciate everyone that fishes with us and want to especially extend a warm welcome to our newcomers.  Thank you.

Our next tournament will be held on Lake Barkley at the Kuttawa/Lyon County Public Ramp on April 29th.  We will launch at 7:00 AM and weigh-in at 3:00 PM. We will be at the ramp for boat check and late registrations at 6:00 AM.
