Joey & Rhonda Vanzant win on Logan Martin Lake
ATHENS, Ala. –Joey and Rhonda Vanzant won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Central Alabama Division 1 tournament, held November 11, 2017, on Logan Martin Lake. Running out of Clear Creek Harbor near Pell City, AL the team caught 5 bass weighing 15.58 pounds. For the victory, they earned a check for $495.00. The Vanzant’s caught their fish on spinner baits in shallow water. Joey won Man’s Big Fish with a 5.01-pound kicker.
In second for the 11 teams, Adam and Andrea Smith caught five bass weighing 12.64 pounds. They pocketed a check for $330.00. Taking third place, the team of Donathan and Sherry Jacks caught 5 bass weighing 10.47 pounds. Sherry won the Woman’s Big Fish contest with a 3.81-pound lunker. In fourth place, Terry Durham caught 5 bass weighing 10.00 pounds. Mark and Amy Shannon rounded out the top five teams with 5 bass weighing 9.12 pounds.
All ABA American Couples Series events involve a team format with each team composed of one man and one woman. Contestants between 14 and 18 years old may participate with a parent’s written permission.
The next divisional tournament will be December 2, 2017 on Lake Mitchell out of Higgin’s Ferry. The top angling couples from across the nation earn the right to compete in the annual American Bass Anglers Couples Series National Championship tournament.

Although many married couples compete together as teams, some teams consist of boyfriend and girlfriend combinations, parent-child combinations or just two friends. Contestants between 12 and 18 years old may participate with a parent’s written permission.
