Day One of Couples Championship is in the Books

Athens, AL -  Day One of the American Bass Anglers, 2017 American Couples Series National Championships is in the books.  Running out of Lakepoint Resort State Park in Eufaula, AL  the team of Sean and Kathy Capes brought back a five-fish limit that locked in the scales at 14.33 pounds. The team anchored their catch with a 5.88-pound kicker.  They will start Day Two of the tournament as the team to beat, leading the field by just under three pounds.

"Most of our fish came on crankbaits today. We feel good about bringing in another limit tomorrow", said Sean Capes.

The Team of Allen and Carolyn Raines finished Day One in Second Place with a five-fish limit that locked in at 11.91 pounds, putting them in striking distance of the leaders.  Allen had the biggest bass weighed in for the men today at 5.98 pounds.

The team of Mike Garlen and Rhonda Ford Had Lady’s Big Bass, with Rhonda landing a fish that went for 4.12 pounds.

The field is close after Day One and anything can happen.  Day Two starts October 6th, 2017, with the weigh in starting at 2:30 PM at the Lakepoint Resort State Park.

This event has been hosted by the Eufaula-Barbour Chamber of Commerce.

The 2018 ABA American Couples Series Championship will be held on September 16-21, 2018 at Lake Hartwell. The 2018 event is hosted by the Anderson County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

All ABA American Couples Series events involve a team format with each team composed of one man and one woman. Although many married couples compete together as teams, some teams consist of boyfriend and girlfriend combinations, parent-child combinations or just two friends. Contestants between 12 and 18 years old may participate with a parent’s written permission.

The top angling couples from across the nation earn the right to compete in the annual American Bass Anglers Couples Series National Championship tournament.
